YACHTING24.com - Online Boat Insurance

Glossary

The Agreed Value corresponds to the sum insured, which consists of the value of the boat and the value of any personal effects, outboard engine and trailer. It is paid out without any deductions in the event of a total loss. From the fourth policy year onwards, your boat is insured for its current value.

This sailing ground covers the waters of the Baltic, including Kattegat and Skagerrak, as well as the European rivers and inland waterways. In estuaries, an imaginary continuation of the coastline forms the boundary between the inland waterways and the neighbouring sea.

A clear description under which a production boat is sold. For example Allante 485 VR CD.

YACHTING24 only arranges boat insurance for production boats so that it can calculate the risk without costly checks. We therefore keep over 150,000 production boats on our boat type database for you to choose from. If your boat is not there, please notify us of all the relevant data in the quotation form (Type not found).

The boat value indicates the cost required in order to obtain a boat of equal value. In the case of new boats, this is the same as the value as new. YACHTING24 recommends a value to you according to the type and year of construction of your boat. You can amend it within the range of -10 to +30 per cent.

A constructive total loss exists if, in the event of a loss, the repair costs exceed the insured value of your boat.

The cruising area determines the area in which your yacht is covered. You can adapt the sailing ground to your requirements at any time.
You can choose from the following cruising area:

If you have chosen this option, the necessary repairs costs (labour and materials) are paid as follows:

- in the case of property up to 3 years old, without any deduction
- over 3 years old, 20% deduction
- over 5 years old, 35% deduction
- 10 years old and over, 50% deduction.

The cost of transportation to and from the boat yard will be paid without any deduction.

This sailing ground includes European coastal waters and the Mediterranean coast of Turkey up to 200 nautical miles offshore, as well as European rivers and inland waterways. In estuaries, an imaginary continuation of the coastline forms the boundary between the inland waterways and the neighbouring sea. The waters of the Black Sea are not included under the policy.

The excess (amount you retain yourself) is a fixed percentage which is borne by the Policyholder in the event of a loss. An excess means that the insurance can be offered at a lower premium. YACHTING24 is only responsible for the portion of the loss which exceeds the excess.

Example: US-BIYB78CLK900
US = country code (two capital letters)
- = hyphen (can be omitted)
BIY = builder’s code (three capital letters)
B = code for boat type
78CL = production number
K = month built (A=1=January, B=2=Feb., C=3=March etc.) in this case K=11=Nov.
9 = year built (1 figure - last figure of year)
00 = model year (2 figures - last figure of year)

This example shows that the boat was built in the USA, the builder is the Bayliner yard, the boat type is B, the type number is 78CL, the month built is November 1999 and the boat is from model year 2000.

This sailing ground includes European rivers and inland waterways. In estuaries, an imaginary continuation of the coastline forms the boundary between the inland waterways and the neighbouring sea.

You can adjust your insurance cover to meet your precise needs and thus optimise the insurance premium. The following insurance products for you to choose from are available here.

This sailing ground includes European coastal waters in the Mediterranean as well as the Mediterranean coast of Turkey up to 200 nautical miles offshore, as well as European rivers and inland waterways. In estuaries, an imaginary continuation of the coastline forms the boundary between the inland waterways and the neighbouring sea.

We work entirely without a no-claims bonus system. So the premium remains the same, even after a loss. Nevertheless, both parties are entitled to cancel the policy in the event of a loss. See Article 13 para. 2 of the YACHTING24 conditions of insurance.

This sailing ground includes the waters of the North Sea (not south of the line between Dover and Calais and not north of the line between Bergen and Cape Wrath) and the Baltic, as well as European rivers and inland waterways. In estuaries, an imaginary continuation of the coastline forms the boundary between the inland waterways and the neighbouring sea.

If total loss cover is selected and a separate sum insured specified for an outboard engine in the case of motor boats, it too is covered by separate total loss cover as defined in Article 1.1 (Y-24 Total loss). In the case of theft, this only applies if engines are secured with a suitable anti-theft device.

Personal effects are items of property for personal use which do not form part of the direct equipment of the boat (e.g. mobile phone, laptop computer, sunglasses, cameras). Personal effects can be included under the insurance up to a maximum value of 2,000.

This option is only available if the boat has a cabin.

Bespoke or one-off boats built specifically to order are not considered production boats.

If you race and would like to be covered for losses occurring during races, please chose the Racing option. This option is only available for sailing boats. For more information please see the Hull §6 Exclusions and/or the Total Loss §4 Exclusions.

The sum insured for your boat constitutes the basis on which your premium is calculated. The sum insured is made up of

  • boat value
  • engine
  • trailer
  • personal effects (boats with cabins only).

*The current value of a boat indicates the cost required in order to obtain a boat of equal value.

If total loss cover is selected and a trailer/launch trolley is specified with a specific sum insured, the trailer/launch trolley will also be covered by separate total loss cover as defined in Article 1.1 (Y-24 Total loss). In the case of theft, this only applies if the trailer/launch trolley is secured with a suitable anti-theft device.

In the case of transportation by land, you have two options Standard and Extended. Choose the Standard option to insure journeys to and from the winter storage location up to a distance of 25 miles. To insure unlimited transportation within the chosen sailing ground, please choose the Extended option. For more information please see the Hull Conditions (§4 Transportation) and or the Total Loss Conditions (§2 Transportation).

Transporting a boat from when it is craned out of the water to its winter storage is called "transportation to winter storage". This transportation is covered under the provisions of the Y24 Hull and Y24 Total loss insurance for up to 30 km (25 miles) in each direction, but can be extended (See Transportation by land).

This sailing ground includes the waters of the UK and Ireland (not West of 12 Degrees West and the North Sea, not South of La Rochelle and not North of the line between Bergen and Unst), as well as UK and Irish rivers and inland waterways. In estuaries, an imaginary continuation of the coastline forms the boundary between the inland waterways and the neighbouring sea.

The law on insurance contracts (Versicherungsvertragsgesetz, VVG for short) contains the general provisions which the parties to the contract (insurer, insured) have to comply with when arranging, performing and ending the contract. Unless the Y24 conditions provide otherwise, the provisions of the VVG apply.

With wreck and salvage costs, you can choose between the Standard and Expanded options. With the Standard option, wreck and salvage costs are paid up to the amount of the sum insured, with the Expanded option they are paid without limit. For more information please see the Hull Conditions (Art. 5 Expenses) and/or the Total Loss Conditions (Art. 1 Expenses).
